Silvere
A harbour city of brownstone avenues, lime-tree boulevards and pale palace walls — the starting point for every adventurer who enters the Age of Heroes.
The City
Silvere rises from the coast, its brownstone walls carefully cut and laid with near-seamless precision. Lime trees stand sentry along the palace avenue, their clusters of ripening fruit scenting the air. Seagulls glide high overhead by day; by night, city lights twinkle in the distance while the palace throws long shadows across the stone roads.
The city is ruled from the palace of Lu'meyn, whose brownstone walls tower above the western avenue. A great white marble statue guards the west wall, gazing silently over the city below.
The Harbour
Where the road meets the sea, the harbourmaster's office watches over arriving ships, and the Seaman's Rest offers warmth to those newly ashore. The walls above are thick with ivy — green and red in summer, stripped bare and brown through winter — strong enough to climb, if you dare.
The smell of salt and rope mingles with the city's warmth. Ships from distant ports bring news, goods, and the occasional danger.
The West Quarter
Commerce thrives west of the palace avenue. Eldranna's Bake Shoppe fills the street with the smell of fresh bread and wood smoke; pine shelves behind the counter are lined with breads and pastries, the day's special chalked on the wall. Small dappled doves forage beneath the shop fronts while the street carries the hum of trade.
The Forest & Wilderness
South of the city gates, the road crosses a bridge over the river before splitting at a small crossing through open fields. Beyond lies forest — moss-covered stones, dense bushes that seem to reach for the unwary, and a pervasive quiet that smells of old books and living earth.
The rhythmic thumping of rabbits and the scatter of startled birds are constant companions. The trees know things you do not.
The Fortress
To the north, towers rise above the fields. Arrow slits cast thin blades of light through stone corridors; barrels of arrows wait beside the walls. Torchlight flickers across the ceiling beams and the smell of smoke and sweat hangs in the air.
From the battlements, the fields spread out below. A chapel bell rings in the distance. Faint snoring drifts up from the floors below. The fortress is quiet — for now.
The Palace
The throneroom of Lu'meyn is an impressive hall of high ceilings and decorated walls. Access is not freely given. The palace guards the seat of power over Silvere and its surrounding lands, and those who rule from within are said to know far more than they ever choose to share.
Sykorath
Older, darker, and less welcoming than Silvere — a city that keeps its secrets behind high walls and in the earth beneath.
The Inner City
The inner town is encircled by high walls, their towers standing watch over the main gate. The main plaza at the heart of the city sometimes holds a pillory, sometimes stands empty — its moods are the city's moods.
Streets radiate outward in eight directions from the plaza, connecting districts that have grown over generations without obvious plan.
The Outer Districts
Beyond the walls, paths wind between patches of beautiful flowers and muddy puddles. The city pub stands on one such street, its sign carved with runes: "Drink as much as you can." Firebreather, scotch, beer, and coffee are served without ceremony.
The Dark Forest
The forest surrounding Sykorath is a different creature entirely from Silvere's woodland walks. It is a place where details go unlogged, where things are found only when they choose to be found. Travellers who enter without purpose rarely leave with what they came for.
The Graveyard
An old graveyard lies to the west of the city, enclosed by a low, nearly-rotten wall still standing at roughly a metre high. The entrance is quiet. The graves lie further in. It is not a place to linger without reason.
